The home of Rocky MTB
Hi and welcome to Rocky MTB, the spiritual home of mountain biking in Central Queensland.
OK, so let’s talk mountain biking. If you’re looking for somewhere to ride around the Rockhampton region, we have two main trail networks and a third on the way.
First Turkey is the home of MTB in Rocky and is open all day everyday except when Mother Nature has other ideas.
Flooding in Moore’s Creek or heavy rain are the main events that close the park temporarily. Don’t worry, a day or two of sunshine and our trails are generally ready to go. There are walkers and runners who also use the reserve so keep an eye out for other users. If you are a walker please give way to bike riders and stay off the marked one way trails.
First Turkey is based around a hub model where trails start and end at a common hub so choosing your next adventure is easy. There is also a map at most hubs to help you navigate.
Seeonee Park has a smaller network of primarily XC trails. We share the reserve with the Scouts and have restricted access hours for Club members only. Opening hours can also be found on the Trails page.
Finally, Mount Morgan is set to host 20+ km of trails around the picturesque No. 7 Dam in the coming year so watch this space.
Most Saturday and Sunday mornings you’ll find plenty of people riding at First Turkey. Rock up and have a lap. It won’t be long before you bump into someone to ride with or to point out the type of trails you’re looking for.
The Club runs a number of mountain bike races throughout the year. We offer cross country (XC), gravity enduro (GE), our annual 3 hour race (February) and 6 hour race (May).
Don’t worry if you’ve never raced before. There are categories for everyone from junior and novice through to expert. Our 6 hour race also has a team format so you can share the pain with your friends!
Our club is also well stocked with Level 0 coaches who can guide you through the early days of mountain biking. Watch this space for some organised training days.
If you use our trails regularly, you need to become a member of Rocky MTB. Membership benefits are many, not least personal insurance, but just as importantly your membership dollars are ploughed back into building new trails and progressing the sport in Central Queensland. Our trails are built and maintained by volunteers – without you they don’t exist.
We also need active members in our executive positions and as volunteers on race days. It doesn’t take much of you time, but the results for the sport are enormous so if you have a passion for helping junior riders, women or competitive events then get in touch.
Aside from riding your bike we have regular dig days to maintain our trails and put back into the reserve, so consider joining up and keep an eye on our social media outlets for events.
If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch. You can also find us on Facebook and Instagram, or use the form below to subscribe to this site. You’ll be the first to receive updates on what we’re doing to make our sport great in CQ – Even before the news hits social media!
Now get out on your bike and ride! 🙂
Dan is current el presidente for Rocky MTB. When he’s not building trails he is dreaming of building trails. Owner of just two bikes he is somewhat behind the times but rest assured they are both MTB’s. Too tall to be an Ewok and too short to be a Storm Trooper there was no future for him as a Star Wars extra so mountain bikes it is.
